Farron rejects post-election coalition

24 Apr 2017

South Lakes MP and Lib Dem Leader Tim Farron has today announced that the Liberal Democrats will not enter into a coalition with either Theresa May's Conservatives or Jeremy Corbyn's Labour party after June's General Election.

Tim said: "The Liberal Democrats will not join a coalition with Theresa May's Conservatives or Jeremy Corbyn's Labour. We don't rule out future coalitions - we believe in plural politics - but we won't enter one with either May or Corbyn.

"The Liberal Democrats are committed to providing a decent and proper opposition to this Conservative government that is slashing £572million from our local NHS, cutting £23million from Cumbria's schools, and pulling the UK out of the single market with damaging plans for a hard Brexit.

"This election is a chance to send a message to the government and change the direction of our country. If you want properly funded public services and to keep us in the single market, this is your chance."
