Farron: Public 'angry' about savage school cuts

Tim with the school cuts petition

South Lakes MP Tim Farron was out in Kendal town centre this weekend to continue his campaign against the Conservatives' planned cuts to Cumbria's schools. He says the public are "angry" about the plans, and says the government must listen.

Tim was out speaking to the public and collecting signatures on his petition opposing the government's plans. Teaching unions have warned that the government's planned £28million of cuts to Cumbria's schools could see up to 746 teachers axed across the county.

Tim said: "There is a real anger among the public that the government is not listening to the people when it comes to cuts to our schools. Local people whose kids go to local schools know just how damaging it would be if Cumbria were to lose 746 teachers.

"It is time for the government to listen to teachers and the public, and reconsider these damaging plans. We should be investing in the next generation, not slashing funding for schools.

"If you have not already done so, please do go to my website and sign the petition now to show how much local people care about this issue."
