Farron promotes Cumbria discount card offer in parliament
South Lakes MP Tim Farron has tabled a motion in Parliament commending Cumbria Tourism's discount card scheme.
Cumbria Tourism have launched the cards, offering free access on selected dates to Cumbria's top tourist attractions, which can be purchased by people living or working in the CA and LA postcodes.
Commenting, Tim said: "I wanted to bring this scheme to the attention of my colleagues in Westminster as I think it is both a fantastic, innovative idea and an example for the rest of the country's top tourist areas.
"People who live and work in our region maintain its vibrancy by contributing to the local economy, paying taxes, and generally ensuring that Cumbria remains England's most welcoming and attractive tourist destination.
"This scheme represents a richly deserved reward to them and I am very proud to sing its praises in Parliament. Allowing local people to benefit from what makes their community such an attractive place to visit is an excellent idea".
Text of EDM as follows:
"Registers support for Cumbria Tourism's discount card scheme, enabling Cumbrian Residents to take advantage of local tourist attractions free of charge on certain dates; acknowledges the fact that people living and working in the region have the right to enjoy local attractions free of charge due to their contribution to making Cumbria a welcoming and desirable place to visit; highlights the innovative nature of the idea; and calls for similar schemes to be adopted across the country's top tourist destinations."
