South Lakes MP Tim Farron met last week with young people taking part in the National Citizen Service scheme, to discuss his role as an MP and how the young people could make a difference in their own communities.

Tim met with the young people to take part in a discussion session about his work as an MP, as well as our democratic system more widely. The students also talked with Tim about their own communities, and how they could be involved and make a difference.

The National Citizen Service scheme aims to develop young people's skills and independence. It includes an outward bound residential as well as a focus on community action and independent living skills.

Tim said: "It was great to meet and talk with these young people as part of their National Citizen Service scheme. It was inspiring to see their infectious enthusiasm and desire to make a difference to their communities. Young people are often unfairly criticised, but it was clear from meeting this group that they are determined to make a positive difference to society. I hope they find the scheme rewarding and go on to put into action the ideas that we discussed. I'm sure they all have bright futures ahead of them!"
