Farron Makes Plea For 'Common Sense Approach' To Boost Staveley Businesses

South Lakeland MP Tim Farron has written to the Lake District National Park Authority to call for a 'common sense approach' to business signs along the A591 near Staveley.

Tim has written to the National Park Authority, to ask for them to treat Staveley as a "special case" given the ongoing difficulties for businesses due to the bridge closure.

The National Park sent a letter to Staveley Parish Council and to local businesses last week, warning them that illegal roadside signs in the verges along the A591 close to the Staveley junction would not be tolerated and threatening fines of up to £2500.

Tim said: "I am asking the National Park Authority to treat Staveley as a special case. Since the floods hit last winter, the village has been cut in two by the closure of the bridge. The National Park Authority should adopt a common sense approach. Struggling businesses in Staveley must compete against an array of 'road closed' signs, and allowing them to put up small temporary signs will help to provide a much needed boost to trade. Without some flexibility, businesses in our area will not survive."
