Farron launches Dentistry campaign
Tim Farron MP has today launched a campaign to clear the waiting list and allow every person in the South Lakes to have access to a NHS dentist.
In 2009, NHS Cumbria said that 26,361 people were on a waiting list for dental services. Furthermore, with the decision last year of the Captain French dental practice in Kendal to go private many NHS patients have been left without a dentist and many more sit on large waiting lists.
Tim has been working hard to improve provision in the South Lakes with the Ambleside dentist practice going from strength to strength. Tim has previously received a letter from the primary care trust stating that "NHS Cumbria is in the process of increasing the dental provision in the Kendal area." This is positive news but there is more still to be done.
Tim commented:
"Everyone in South Lakeland should have access to an NHS dentist. We need a system to enable access to NHS dentistry that is easy quick and accommodates the demands we have in the South Lakes. I want NHS Cumbria to find an NHS dentist for everyone on their list - and to make sure that their waiting list doesn't just include those people who have opted on to it, while ignoring all those families who have simply accepted their fate and not asked to go on the waiting list."
