Tim has launched a campaign to get the government to provide the full funds for an ambitious flood relief scheme for the River Kent that will protect Kendal, Burneside and Staveley.

The scheme, designed by the Environment Agency, will be a whole system project involving upstream management, improved drainage and new embankments. The cost of the scheme is estimated to be £25 million.

However, although the government has announced additional funding for flood defences in yesterday's budget, it has not yet said that it will fully fund this scheme. Tim has therefore launched a campaign alongside our local community to persuade government to provide the money needed to build this scheme.

Tim said: "Our community was devastated by the floods in December. Hundreds of families and businesses have had their lives turned upside down and faced real hardship as a result of the floods. We must do everything we can to prevent that catastrophe happening again, that's why I'm launching this campaign to get the government to fully fund this ambitious scheme to protect our community in the future. I hope everyone in our area will agree to sign my petition so that we can have the best chance of winning this vital campaign."

Tim has also written an early day motion, submitted to parliament, calling for this scheme to be built and for the government to provide the funding.
