Farron gives backing to Royal Legion's campaign to support our troops

Local MP Tim Farron has given his backing to the Royal Legion's "Time to do your bit" campaign which calls on the government to provide a duty care for the whole Armed Forces family.

Tim, who is a paid-up member of the local Legion in South Lakes, has signed a petition in support of the Royal Legions manifesto for Armed Forces Welfare and has called on the government to do more to tackle the problems associated with pensioner poverty and the provision of veterans' healthcare.

Commenting Mr Farron said:

"I'm absolutely delighted to be able to sign the Royal British Legions petition. I hope the government will sit up and take notice of the large number of MPs and members of the pubic alike who have given their support to this campaign.

"The Legion's manifesto should be seen by the government as the perfect blueprint for delivering the quality of care that our serving troops and veterans deserve.

"It's vital that the government deliver on issues like poverty among older veterans and widows and in doing so honour the promises they made to the brave men and women who have risked life and limb on our behalf.
