Local MP Tim Farron is encouraging Cumbrians to get this season's flu injection in line with healthcare recommendations. Tim got a jab from Superdrug in the Westmorland Shopping Centre in Kendal on Monday afternoon.

Almost 50% of people with a serious medical condition, 25% of people over the age of 65 and 60% of pregnant women did not have a flu vaccine last year in England, despite the fact that the consequences of not having a flu vaccine for these groups of people can be serious. In the 2012/13 winter, there were an estimated 11,000 deaths from flu in the UK. Tim is urging all those placed in an 'at risk' group to get a flu jab.

Tim said: "The consequences of having flu for certain groups of people, such as people with a medical condition, pregnant women, children and people over the age of 65 can be very serious. I would urge everyone who is entitled to a free flu vaccine on the NHS to go and get vaccinated."
