Farron Demands Enquiry Into Police Funding Error

6 Nov 2015

Tim Farron MP this evening demanded a national enquiry into a government error which will see Cumbria Police's funding cut by even more than expected.

Tim has written to Keith Vaz MP, Chairman of the Home Affairs Select Committee, to demand an immediate enquiry into an error in the formula used to calculate cuts. As a result of the mistake, Cumbria Police's funding could face an additional cut of £5.8 million on top of what had already been announced.

Cumbria Police are in line to receive the largest percentage reduction in their budget of any force in the country, and this will be exacerbated by this error.

Tim said: "In rural communities like ours, these cuts will mean the end of proper community policing and will make our county a much less safe place to be.

"Cumbria Police are outstanding and they do not deserve this devastating blow. This error now means that Cumbria would face additional cuts - these aren't just numbers, this means we will be losing even more officers from Cumbria's streets and villages."
