Farron delivers health cuts petition to Number 10
Last week South Lakeland MP Tim Farron went to 10 Downing Street to deliver a petition on behalf of thousands of constituents to stop local health service cuts.
The petition has so far been signed by over 2,000 South Lakes residents, and calls on the Conservative Government to properly fund our hospitals and local NHS so that key services are not scrapped.
The NHS in Lancashire and South Cumbria will face cuts of £572million by 2021 because of inadequate funding from central government. Local health bosses are currently drawing up plans to deal with this funding shortfall, but it has not yet been specified which local services will face the axe.
Tim said: "Health services here in South Cumbria and Lancashire clearly face a crippling financial crisis - £572million is a monumental figure.
"Never before has the NHS been so much in demand or more stretched. It's absolutely appalling that the Chancellor didn't mention the NHS or social care in his Autumn Statement once.
"Instead of forcing local health bosses to cut costs - and most likely axe vital services like our A&E departments or hospital wards - the Government needs to fund our NHS properly.
"That's why I started this petition and that's why I was proud to deliver almost two and a half thousand signatures to Theresa May last week. The Prime Minister needs to step in, take responsibility and instruct her Ministers to fund our NHS properly."
