South Lakes MP Tim Farron, who is also President of the Liberal Democrats, has added his voice to the debate on Scottish Independence and said we are Better Together.

Tim has tabled a parliamentary motion in Westminster calling for Northern MPs of all parties to join the campaign to save the union given the close family, business and economic ties across the border between northern England and southern Scotland.

Tim's motion says: "That this House celebrates the close and deep connections between the north of England and Scotland; notes the shared values of community, decency and fairness; believes that people throughout Northern Ireland, Wales and England will be heartbroken if Scotland were to choose to leave the United Kingdom and that this sense of deep sadness would be felt especially strongly across the north of England; and commits itself to fully respecting the will of the Scottish people in the coming referendum, but wishes to record its strong desire that Scotland remains a central and vital part of the United Kingdom."

Tim said: "We need to make arguments of the head and heart, showing that we are both economically and socially better together. Not only do the bonds of friendship extend across the border so do families, businesses and our economy. I have tabled this motion and I hope that this issue is above party lines and that MP's of all parties will join the campaign to keep the union together."
