Farron calls on Government to deliver high speed broadband for South Lakes
Local MP Tim Farron has called on the Government to deliver high speed broadband for the whole of South Lakeland after the Prime Minster confirmed that between 5% and 10% of British homes would be left without access to higher speed broadband. The problem being that those will be homes in rural areas such as South Lakeland. Mr Farron has been campaigning for high-speed broadband for black spots in rural communities like Old Hutton in South Lakeland.
Commenting Mr Farron said:
"Government's plans to roll-out high-speed broadband seem to pay very little attention paid to the needs of rural Britain.
"What we have at the moment is a two-tier system of broadband that penalises those living in rural areas. It's clear that a number of people in South Lakeland will be charged to fund a broadband upgrade they will never see.
"The government has a responsibility to take action to ensure that rural England is not left in the broadband slow lane. Superfast broadband will make the biggest difference to people in South Lakeland, by providing businesses and entrepreneurs with the best opportunity to help them get through this economic crisis."
