Farron calls for roundtable meeting to get Gooseholme Bridge rebuilt

Tim Farron is calling for a meeting to 'knock heads together' to get Gooseholme Bridge in Kendal replaced.

The bridge was damaged by Storm Desmond back in 2015. Cumbria County Council contractors are ready to start work to replace the bridge, but the council say this could be delayed by a year because of objections put forward Friends of the Lake District and the Open Spaces Society.

Tim is calling for a meeting between the two conservation groups, the county council, the district council and the Environment Agency to find a solution.

Tim said: "Gooseholme Bridge was a vital link for Kendal.

"So, the news that this could be delayed yet again by another 12 months will be met with immense frustration by everyone in the town.

"This cannot be allowed to drag on any longer. Let's get everyone in a room, knock some heads together and get this done - local people have waited long enough."
