Farron calls for review of parking in Oxenholme village
Parking and traffic problems in Oxenholme village are getting worse according to Tim Farron who has surveyed local residents to listen to their views.
The presence of the railway station means that travellers often leave their cars in the village for days, or even weeks, on end, causing real problems to local people. The steady stream of vehicles to the station also causes difficulties.
Tim has challenged Cumbria County Highways to review parking and traffic rules in the village in order to improve this situation.
Tim said: "Oxenholme station is vital to our community - I use it almost every week - but the cost of parking at the station leads many travellers to seek to park their cars for free in residential areas. This causes real congestion and parking difficulties to full time residents. There has been some expansion of residents-only parking in recent years, which has helped many residents but the problem has been pushed further into the village.
"The busy traffic through the village - sometimes at excessive speeds - is also a real concern. There are many children and older people in the village, it's vital that we protect their safety by looking at ways to reduce the danger caused by the congestion in the village at busy times. That's why I am asking the Highways department to draw up a new plan for the village to ease the pressure on local residents."
