Farron backs petition for children's hospice in south Cumbria

South Lakeland MP Tim Farron has called upon the Prime Minister to support the creation of a children's hospice in south Cumbria. Parents of extremely ill children in Cumbria currently face a car journey of over an hour to the nearest hospice in Chorley.

Mr Farron is a patron of South Cumbria charity, the Bluebell Foundation, who aim to provide support and counseling to families who have experienced the loss of a child.

Tim has tabled an Early Day Motion in the House of Commons highlighting the work of the Bluebell Foundation and the importance of making support available to families and has called for the creation of a children's hospice in South Lakeland to ensure sick children are able to receive the best possible medical care close to home.

Commenting Mr Farron said:

"The Bluebell Foundation does exceptional work by providing vital support to families suffering from the devastating impact which follows the death of a child. But it's important that we don't take their work for granted and neglect the issue of proper medical care.

"The exhausting effect of a two hour round trip to the nearest hospice at Chorley is unacceptable, which is why it is obvious that there is a real need for this vital service in south Cumbria.

"It's clear from the number of people that have signed the petition on the Prime Minister's website that there is a real desire to build a children's hospice in south Cumbria. I hope that the powers that be take notice of this support and start work towards building this much needed facility."
