South Lakes MP Tim Farron has offered his support to Carers Week, which is taking place next week on the 10th-16th June. Tim will be meeting South Lakeland carers tomorrow at 3pm in advance of national carers week to discuss what additional support can be offered to carers.

Carers Week is a national campaign which tries to highlight and celebrate the work 6.5 million carers do on a daily basis in the UK.

In 2013 Carers Week will be focusing on whether the nation is "Prepared to Care?" The campaign will highlight how the UK's current carer population is coping, how effectively government is supporting the growing numbers of carers and whether the wider population is prepared for future caring responsibilities.

Tim said: "Many people throughout Cumbria will care for a loved one in some form. This hidden group of people give up their time, sometimes their jobs and often make life changing sacrifices to care for someone. I have seen first hand the phenomenal work carers do and would like everyone to show support to our carers."
