Farron Backs Flood Campaign

6 Nov 2015

Tim Farron MP has backed a campaign to raise awareness of flood risks.

The Environment Agency has this week launched a campaign to raise awareness of the risks associated with flooding, and to encourage people to take simple measures to improve their safety.

In 2013-14, the wettest winter on record saw 3,200 commercial properties flooded and 7,700 homes flooded across the UK.

Visit www.gov.uk/floodsdestroy to take the following simple steps to help protect you, your family, your home or your business from flooding:

  • Use the Environment Agency's maps to find out if you are at risk from flooding
  • Register for free flood warnings
  • Prepare a flood plan for you or your business

Tim commented: "It is always heartbreaking to see the impact of flooding on local people and businesses here in Cumbria.

We saw in 2009 the devastating impact floods can have on South Lakeland, and we need to do our utmost to prevent that happening again.

Whilst I will continue to push for more to be done by the government to prevent flooding, I would encourage residents and business owners to take these simple steps to help protect themselves."
