Farron appeals to Receiver to help stricken dairy farmers

Following discussions with representatives from PriceWaterhouseCoopers, who have been appointed as receivers and managers of Dairy Farmers of Britain, Liberal Democrat Shadow Defra Secretary Tim Farron MP revealed that there may be some light at the end of the tunnel for members of milk co-operative.

Commenting Mr Farron said:

"I spoke today with the manager appointed by PriceWaterhouseCoopers to oversee DFoB, who seemed largely positive about the future for members of the collapsed co-operative.

"While he suggested that members would probably not be paid for May's milk cheques, he did indicate that there may be some light at the end of the tunnel.

"New buyers have been found for 96 per cent. of the milk, leaving fewer than 200 of the 1,800 farmers affected yet to find an alternative milk buyer.

"He also confirmed that if there was any money at all left after all secured debts had been paid, then some of the May milk cheque may be paid. I wouldn't want to raise farmers hopes in that respect, however I will be pressing hard for this to happen."
