Extending the lockdown must come with financial support for businesses that are falling through the cracks – MP
Commenting on this morning's speech from the Prime Minister, South Lakes MP Tim Farron said: "The Prime Minister is absolutely right to say that the lockdown must continue.
"We are starting to see the death rate decrease but we could be putting that at risk if we let our guard down.
"However, if we are to carry on with these measures then the financial support has to be there for all those who are sadly falling through the cracks.
"There is a big issue for example that some people who run B&Bs - which is a huge part of the hospitality industry here in the Lakes - are not able to claim a single penny of the Government's grants because they pay council tax not business rates.
"Making provisions for businesses who do not pay business rates to be included in the support scheme, as well as everyone else that is missing out, gives us the best possible chance of being able to stay at home and save lives."
