Emergency Services Praised by MP
Tim Farron MP has praised the SLDC, the emergency services and the Environment Agency for their flood preparation efforts.
In addition to making sandbags available, SLDC set up a Reception Centre at Kendal Town Hall to enable residents affected by flooding to be evacuated.
The Met Office had predicted heavy and prolonged rainfall, which had been expected to lead to severe flooding in some areas of South Lakeland, particularly in Kendal. The Environment Agency estimated that up to 1000 properties along the river in Kendal could be at risk of flooding.
Tim said: "Thankfully the weather wasn't as severe as had been expected this time around, and Kendal wasn't too badly affected.
However, we all know how devastating the impact of flooding can be, so I'd like to thank the SLDC, the emergency services and the Environment Agency for all their hard work.
They kept residents informed, and had in place clear plans for evacuating vulnerable residents, had that been necessary."
