CQC report shows need for extra govt support says Farron
South Lakes MP Tim Farron has today called on the government to give extra financial support to University Hospitals of Morecambe Bay after a CQC report raised concerns about A&E at Furness General.
The report by the Care Quality Commission (CQC) raised concerns during a recent inspection visit of the Emergency Department at Furness General Hospital on 16 April 2013. Inspectors raised concerns surrounding the cleanliness and hygiene within the Emergency Department.
The trust took immediate action to put plans in place to ensure the department maintained a good standard of hygiene, including increasing domestic cover within the department and a deep clean of the resuscitation area.
Tim said: "Today's announcement is worrying but I do welcome the trust's openness and swift action. I think it is regrettable, and shows that trust should not be asked to make £25m savings at the same time as dealing with the crisis that happened under the previous management. I want the Department of Health to offer extra help and financial support to the trust to allow it to get back on an even keel."
