“Burneside residents deserve better" – Farron calls for immediate action over local bridge closure

19 Oct 2017

South Lakes MP Tim Farron has called on the government to provide immediate funds so that Ford Bridge in Burneside can be repaired and fully reopened.

The bridge was closed after a technical inspection by county highways found that both remaining supporting piers had been 'undermined' following heavy rainfall last week.

Tim said: "It's disgraceful that the bridge is still waiting to be fixed, almost two years after it was damaged by Storm Desmond.

"I've written to the Transport Secretary asking him to intervene and provide the money, that we were promised back in 2015, to sort out this mess. The county council must also make this their priority.

"Burneside residents deserve better."
