‘A shining example’ - MP praises Friends of Kents Bank Station group
This morning, local MP Tim Farron visited Kents Bank railway station in Grange-over-Sands to pay tribute to the hard work of the Friends of Kents Bank Station group.
Following the closure of its shop, post office, pub, cafe, and two hotels between 2014 and 2018, Kents Bank was left without any community meeting place.
But a group of almost 40 volunteers decided to take matters into their own hands to turn the station into a true community facility which now boasts a library, exhibition, and a community garden.
In October, the group were named as runners-up in the 'Station Friends and Adopters at the Heart of Communities' category at the Community Rail Awards 2022.
Speaking after the visit, Tim said: "It was a joy to meet of some of the brilliant and dedicated volunteers who make up the Friends of Kents Bank Station.
"Thanks to their tireless efforts, the station has been transformed into a real hub for the local area.
"They are an absolute shining example of what can be achieved when people come together to make a difference in their community.
"I'd encourage everyone to pay this wonderful station a visit."
