‘A big step in the right direction’ - Local MP welcomes improvement in Cumbria’s children services

29 Jan 2018

South Lakes MP Tim Farron has welcomed a new report which shows that Cumbria County Council is improving its services for children.

An Ofsted report into children's services in Cumbria has improved their overall rating from 'inadequate' to 'requires improvement'.

The report says that all local authority services for children have significantly improved.

Cumbria County Council was also rated 'good' in other areas, such as 'adoption performance' and 'leadership, management and governance'.

This improvement means that Cumbria will no longer be under special surveillance by the Department for Education.

Tim said: "I'm really pleased to hear that improvements are being made in such an important area.

"I deal with lots of cases every week where the children rely on these services, so I know how important it is that we get these right.

"Although the report shows that there's still a lot more work to be done, this is a big step in the right direction."
