£65k secured to fix Parkside Road flooding

South Lakes MP Tim Farron has welcomed the news that councillors have approved £65,000 to fund the scheme to deal with the flooding on Parkside Road. Tim has thanked Clare Feeney-Johnson, Chris Hogg and Shirley Evans for their 'unstinting' work on this issue over many years.

Today, at Cumbria County Council's South Lakeland Local Committee councillors agreed that funds be allocated to deal with the long standing issue.

South Lakeland District Council have now accepted a revised plan, bar a few technical tweaks, and special measures are being put in place to make sure that the issue is dealt with and that any work done on the site will not have any negative impact on nearby residents.

Councillor for Kendal Castle Chris Hogg commented: "I'm delighted we have finally managed to find a solution to this long standing problem. Residents, drivers and pedestrians will be greatly relieved when the work is completed."

County Councillor Clare Feeney-Johnson added: "This has proved to be quite a complicated issue to solve, due to many varying issues from unconnected drains to land ownership but I do feel now we can say we are almost there and I look forward to the work starting and having a flood free Parkside Road!"

Tim further added: "The area around Parkside Road bridge seems to flood every time it rains. The whole team have been working on this issue for many years and have been trying every possible avenue to try and fix the problem. After a few false starts, I hope that today's announcement will allow us to finally fix the flooding.

"I want to thank councillors like Shirley Evans, Clare Feeney-Johnson and Chris Hogg, as well as South Lakeland and Cumbria County Councils for all working together with residents on this long running issue."
