£1.7 million for school places - Farron
Figures released today by the Department for Education show that Cumbria will be getting £1.773 million to provide extra school places. This announcement has been welcomed by South Lakes MP Tim Farron.
Schools Minister David Laws MP has just announced £1.3 billion of funding. This is in addition to the £5 billion allocated over 2011 to 2015 and the £2.35 billion already announced for 2015 to 2017. Cumbria will gain £1,773,463 in 2018, this funding will allow local authorities to create the new school places the authority will need.
Tim said: "Schools throughout South Lakeland and Eden are some of the best in the country and every year I have parents contacting me about not being able to get a place at the school that is best for their child. Every year I have taken these pleas to Ministers and urged them to plough more funding into school places. I hope that this funding will allow schools to have the certainty to expand."
