Tim's schools survey reveals loss of local teachers

Local MP Tim Farron has vowed to continue to fight against the government's plans for massive school cuts, as his survey of local teachers reveals a worrying picture including the loss of local teachers.

Tim has written to all Head Teachers in his constituency, and is in the process of speaking with all of them to discuss the impact of the Conservatives' cuts on their schools. While the information revealed to Tim is confidential, he says that the early responses confirm a worrying picture.

A survey in the Times last month revealed that almost two thirds of schools are planning to get rid of at least one teacher in the next three months. Tim says this figure appears to be borne out locally, with more posts to be cut in the future unless the government changes course.

Schools across Cumbria face £28million of cuts under Conservative plans, which unions have warned could lead to the loss of over 700 teachers.

Tim said: "I am utterly determined to fight the government's damaging plans for massive school cuts, to ensure that our South Lakes schools can continue to provide top-quality education to local children.

"Unless the government changes track, our schools will have to cut teachers, and it is the next generation who will pay the price.

"We cannot leave children in crumbling, underfunded schools with overcrowded classes and overworked teachers. The government must invest in education to give every child a fair chance in life. The cuts must stop."
