Sandylands chippy wins prestigious national award
South Lakes MP Tim Farron has visited a local fish and chip shop to present it with a prestigious national award.
Sandylands Fish and Chip Shop has been awarded the Fish and Chip Quality Award by the National Federation of Fish Friers. This award is a mark not only of the excellent quality and taste of the fish and chips, but also of the shop's high hygiene and health and safety standards. The standards were so high that the shop was just the second fish and chip shop in the country to be designated a 'primary authority'.
Simon Liness, who took over the Sandylands Fish and Chip shop four years ago and has since built it up, was inspected for the award earlier this month.
Tim said: "This is a well-deserved award for Simon and the Sandylands chippy. Local people will know of the great tasting fish and chips served there, but this award shows that the behind the scenes health and hygiene standards are also second to none.
"I remember being in Sandylands last winter, on the weekend that the floods first hit. The Sandylands fish and chip shop stepped in to support local residents caught up in the crisis, choosing to give out about 250 portions of fish and chips to those who had been flooded. It is great now to see its continued success."
