Local MP Tim Farron has given a cautious welcome to improved proposals for the outreach service which is replacing Dent's post office.

Under the new proposals the post office will be situated within Dent Stores rather than the original plan to use the Memorial Hall, which would have insecure and unsuitable. However, the service will be open on Tuesdays and Thursdays, and has only been secured for one year in the first instance.

Tim Farron has submitted a formal response to Post Office Ltd's consultation on the new proposals. Speaking after submitting his response, Mr Farron said: "I am pleased to see that Dent Stores will be the location for the outreach service and I believe that this can only benefit the local shop.

"However I have two main concerns. Firstly that the proposals would mean a considerable reduction in operating hours, and secondly, that the outreach service is only secure for twelve months. I have called for a more long term solution to give local people the security they deserve."
