‘Not another one!’ – MP decries plans for second local NHS reorganisation in three years

2 Mar 2020

South Lakes MP Tim Farron is urging health bosses to think carefully before committing to yet another wholesale reorganisation.

Under new proposals, Morecambe Bay CCG would merge with other clinical commissioning groups in Lancashire to form a single CCG for Lancashire and South Cumbria.

Tim said: "My first reaction to the plans was similar to Brenda from Bristol when she heard about a General Election being announced - not another one!

"It's only been two years since the last reorganisation and I would like health bosses to be devoting all of their time and effort - as I believe they currently are doing - on improving patient care and securing new services, not more chin-stroking.

"I also fear that these plans would see our area go to the back of the queue when it comes to attracting services - being lumped in with cities like Preston would no doubt result in us becoming just an afterthought.

"If more reorganisation is on table then we need to see local health bosses come forward with clear, tangible benefits that will make this use of time and money worthwhile."
