Plans are under way for a third Kendal Wool Gathering next year, with the event delayed a couple of weeks. The event will provisionally be held over the weekend of 24 and 25 October 2015. The announcement has been welcomed by South Lakes MP Tim Farron.

The Kendal Wool Gathering mixes demonstrations, fun activities and displays, all connected to the cloth on which the town's wealth was built. Kendal Town Council's motto is 'Pannus mihi pani', usually translated as 'Wool is My bread'.

Estimated attendance at the annual event at K Village, The Lakes Outlet, was almost 6,500 this year, a 61% increase on the inaugural Gathering last year.

The event featured wool products and art, weaving, spinning and spindling demonstrations, farmers showing and taking questions on their livestock, heritage walks, talks, have-a-go sessions and a pop-up cafe.

Tim said: "Kendal Wool Gathering creates a fantastic response from everyone concerned and I'm really are hopeful that it will become a key event in Kendal's calendar of festivals."

Cllr Chris Hogg, South Lakeland District Council's Portfolio Holder for Culture, Arts and Events added: "Wool Gathering has continued to grow and I'm looking forward to seeing what innovative ideas will be realised in 2015. Recreating the famous Hardman photograph was one of my highlights of this year. Another Kendal festival success!"
