South Lakes MP Tim Farron has this afternoon thanked Electricity North West engineers for their work in reconnecting residents after the bad weather last night.

Last night, around 5,000 homes were left without power - mainly in Milnthorpe, Kendal and Grange-over-Sands. The wind speed, which peaked at 112mph, hampered some restoration efforts last night, and conditions are still not easy for the engineers.

Tim said: "Over the last 12 hours, I know that engineers have worked hard to reconnect residents. I'd like to thank them for their herculean efforts."
