MP slams Conservative cuts after bus services in Arnside and Cartmel are axed

South Lakes MP Tim Farron has hit out at Conservative cuts after it was announced that certain bus services in Arnside and Cartmel are set to end next month.

Stagecoach say that from 27th October they will be withdrawing all journeys on their service 552 Arnside to Kendal via Milnthorpe and Hincaster, and all journeys on their service 530 from Cartmel to Kendal via Levens.

Local authorities have had their budgets slashed by 40% since 2010 and a new report from the Trades Union Congress warns that local government will have a £25bn funding gap in the coming years.

Tim said: "Once again we are seeing Conservative cuts leading to communities in the South Lakes being abandoned.

"After being starved of funding by the Government, local councils have to make the decision between subsidising bus services and spending money on adult social care.

"If the Conservatives genuinely cared about not leaving local communities stranded, it would stop the cuts to councils today."
