MP secures meeting with minister about access to justice in the South Lakes
On the floor of the House of Commons this week, ministers agreed to meet with local MP Tim Farron to discuss restoring access to justice in the South Lakes.
The Government closed Kendal magistrates' court back in 2017 meaning that people in the South Lakes have to travel to Barrow for their nearest court.
Solicitors in the South Lakes say they have seen a significant reduction in work since the closure.
Speaking during Justice Questions, Tim said: "Local families and police in the South Lakes have been badly affected by the closure of Kendal court.
"Will the minister agree to meet me to ensure that we restore access to justice in the South Lakes?"
In response the Justice Minister Chris Philp said: "I should of course be delighted to meet him to discuss any concerns that he may have about access to justice in his constituency."
