MP’s London marathon run raises over £4,000 for Great North Air Ambulance Service
Cumbrian MP Tim Farron has raised £4,300 for the Great North Air Ambulance Service by completing the London Marathon yesterday.
Tim finished the race in 4 hours 32 minutes and 37 seconds - 12 minutes faster than his effort last year.
The Great North Air Ambulance Service, who are celebrating their 20th anniversary this year, is funded entirely by donations from the public.
The charity provides the air ambulance service for Cumbria. From its base in Langwathby near Penrith it can reach any part of the county in just 15 minutes at speeds of 190mph.
Speaking after the run, Tim said: "26 miles is a long way, but the only thing you can do is just keep plodding, soaking up the atmosphere of such a great day. It was a privilege to wear the Great North Air Ambulance vest and to know that we were raising funds for such a vital cause'
I am hugely grateful to everyone who sponsored me and in turn supported the Great North Air Ambulance Service. They are a wonderful charity who work tirelessly to save lives."
Tracey Wright, events co-ordinator at GNAAS, said: "We'd like to offer a massive congratulations to Tim for not only completing a marathon, but beating his previous time by 12 minutes, which is amazing.
"Tim has raised a fantastic amount of money for our charity, which will enable our team to continue saving lives across the region, so we want to pass on our thanks to him and everyone who sponsored him."
