MP's bike ride raises funds for poppy appeal
South Lakes MP Tim Farron has taken part in a charity cycle ride to raise money for the Poppy Appeal. Tim will lay a wreath in Kendal on Friday, before taking part in the service at the Cenotaph on Whitehall on Remembrance Sunday.
Tim joined 76 other MPs and Lords taking part in the charity cycle ride to raise money for the Parliamentary Poppy Appeal. MPs had to cycle as far as possible within five minutes on an exercise bike, with Tim managing 2.06 miles.
Tim will be laying a wreath in Kendal on Remembrance Day on Friday. On Remembrance Sunday, Tim will take part in the service at the Cenotaph in London. Two local students have therefore been asked to lay wreaths on his behalf at the services in Kendal and Windermere.
Tim said: "I was pleased to be able to play a part in raising funds for the Poppy Appeal, and hope it will encourage others to buy a poppy and reflect on what it represents. We must never forget the fallen, and the sacrifice they have made.
"It is an enormous honour to represent Westmorland at the Remembrance Service at the Cenotaph. I am also grateful to those who will lay wreaths in Kendal and Windermere on my behalf."
