South Lakes MP Tim Farron has met with the new Chair of NHS England, Lord Prior, as part of his campaign to bring a satellite radiotherapy centre to Westmorland General Hospital.

As chair of the All-Party Parliamentary Group Tim led a group of cross-party MPs to meet with Lord Prior to make the case for much greater investment into radiotherapy services.

The group presented their manifesto for radiotherapy which calls for a one off £250m investment in radiotherapy satellite units, including in Kendal.

Speaking afterwards Tim said: "We had a really promising meeting with Lord Prior where we made the case for radiotherapy satellite units.

"The treatment is eight times more likely to cure you than chemotherapy but still only represents just 5% of the UK's cancer budget.

"Our campaign for better access to this life saving treatment is gaining real momentum and I want to pay tribute to my brilliant colleagues Grahame Morris MP and Gillian Keegan MP.

"With Parliament at absolutely gridlock, cross-party working is more important than ever before so that we can make it easier for cancer patients to be closer to family and friends whilst receiving lifesaving treatment."
