MP presses United Utilities to get on with Burneside sewer flood relief scheme

Local MP Tim Farron has met with United Utilities to tell them to stop dragging their feet over a sewer flood relief scheme for Burneside.

Last December, the water company announced plans which will help prevent sewer flooding from a manhole at Steeles Row in the centre of the village and reduce the risk of sewage being discharged to the River Kent.

Despite this announcement, work is yet to begin on the project.

During a meeting with the company's chief executive officer Steve Mogford and corporate affairs director Gaynor Kenyon, Tim secured commitments that they would get on delivering the project later this year.

Tim said: "We'd been pushing for this for a long time. Residents in Burneside know that when there's moderate rainfall, the drains on Steeles Row are unable to cope and you get raw sewage on the streets.

"So, it's absolutely vital that United Utilities stop dragging their feet and get on with delivering this much needed scheme."
