South Lakes MP Tim Farron has nominated The New Union in Kendal for the prestigious title of Parliamentary Pub of the Year.

The national awards which culminate in a final at the House of Commons offer all MPs the opportunity to nominate a popular pub from their constituency.

The New Union, which only opened two years ago, has won a string of awards including most recently CAMRA national cider pub of the year.

The pub is a popular community hub hosting a weekly quiz, live music, whisky tastings, street food events, cider and beer festivals, darts competitions, medieval re-enactments and, most recently, a running club.

Tim said: "The New Union is a proper old-fashioned community pub.

"There's a great range of local ale on tap, fantastic events throughout the week and you're guaranteed a really warm and friendly atmosphere every time you go."

Landlord of The New Union, Phil Walker said: "I'm delighted to have been nominated by Tim for Parliamentary Pub of the Year.

"I can't believe how far we've come in these two years but I'm just really grateful to our loyal regulars who have supported us every step of the way."
