MP meets with NWAS and Cumbria Fire Service over Grange ambulance service campaign
Local MP Tim Farron has met with the North West Ambulance Service (NWAS) and Cumbria Fire and Rescue Service as part of the campaign to keep an ambulance based in Grange.
NWAS currently operates an ambulance to cover the Cartmel Peninsula from their station on Kents Bank Road, which it has been doing for the last 20 years. However, the building will be unavailable from August, putting this crucial service at risk.
During the meeting, NWAS stated categorically that their intention is to remain in Grange and are working to relocate the ambulance to Grange Fire Station.
A petition launched by Tim and local Lib Dem councillors Pete Endsor, Jenny Boak and Sue Sanderson, calling for the service to be saved, has gathered more than 1,300 signatures.
Tim said: "I'm really grateful to both NWAS and the Fire Service for meeting with me.
"This is an absolutely vital service and so it's crucially important that we find a new home for the ambulance.
"There was a clear intention from both parties for the ambulance to be moved to the fire station and a lot of work is going on behind the scenes to make this happen.
"The key now is sealing the deal as quickly as possible to give peace of mind to local residents."
