Local MP Tim Farron has called for Arriva Rail North to be stripped from operating the Lakes Line after 14 trains were cancelled in just a single day.

On Thursday, the line, which runs from Windermere to Oxenholme, saw 14 cancellations due to a lack of available drivers.

People have been subjected to an onslaught of cancellations in recent months, with many telling the Lakes Line Rail User Group that they are opting out of using the line altogether "because they had been let down too often".

Tim said: "Turning up to the station to find their train has been cancelled has sadly become a far too familiar experience for people in the South Lakes.

"But Thursday's shambolic episode was the final straw.

"It's painfully clear that Arriva Rail North aren't up to the job and they should be forced to step aside so a company who is actually capable of providing a reliable service can take over.

"Local people deserve better than this."
