MP backs campaign to fix Parkside Road bridge

South Lakes MP Tim Farron has backed a campaign by local resident and former Kendal Town Councillor Chris Hogg calling for action to fix the flooding at Parkside Road bridge.

Chris has set up a petition that he is taking door to door and asking residents to sign. He has also set up a Facebook group, which can be found here: https://www.facebook.com/groups/1526380757588034/

Local County Councillor Clare Feeney-Johnson has been pushing for action too. Clare and the county highways team had requested permission from the landowners of the adjacent land where the natural soak away is currently to put in a more appropriate drainage soak away. This would have been able to take the volumes of water we are now experiencing.

Sadly, Network Rail said that would not work because there has been issues in other locations across the country on railway embankments being eroded with excess water. Clare has requested a suitable alternative solution now be designed & costed. On early discussion this could be done under the road & into the land opposite.

Chris said: "The area around the bridge floods every time it rains. It's troublesome for cyclists, people walking to work and dog walkers. This campaign is a positive call for action and I hope that councillors like Clare Feeney-Johnson and local residents working together will be able to fix this long running issue once and for all."
