MP backs campaign to bring heart screening for young people to Kendal

South Lakes MP Tim Farron has thrown his weight behind the campaign to save young lives by bringing heart screening to Kendal.

This week Tim met with the local representative from the charity Cardiac Risk in the Young, Deborah Dixon who tragically lost her son Aaron in 2011, aged just 23, to an undiagnosed genetic heart defect.

Since then Deborah has fundraised in his memory to support the screening program at Cardiac Risk in the Young. The funding has helped to screen 2,500 young people, with 91 of them having their lives saved as a result.

Deborah is now fundraising to bring a screening to Kendal to help identify undiagnosed heart conditions.

According to Cardiac Risk in the Young, every week in the UK at least 12 apparently fit and healthy young people die of undiagnosed heart conditions.

Tim said: "This is such an important campaign. Far too many lives are cruelly cut short because the conditions weren't picked up.

"What Deborah has achieved over the past few years in helping young people across the country gain early diagnosis has been nothing short of inspirational.

"I look forward to working with Deborah and the team bring vital this screening to Kendal."
