MP backs bid for Kendal Town FC rescue

Local MP Tim Farron has voiced his support for a consortium to take over struggling Kendal Town Football Club.

Over the past week the club, which currently sits second bottom of the Evo-Stik West Division, has seen a mass exodus of players as well as the manager.

But a consortium, headed by former Kendal Town coach and current Fleetwood Town senior scout Michael O'Neill, is bidding to take over the club with a promise of a cash injection of £100,000.

Tim has been speaking with the consortium and the current board of the club to try to encourage negotiations and seek common ground.

Tim said: "The current board work really hard and I cannot criticise their dedication. However, with this ambitious and positive consortium bid on the table, the board do not have a right to take Kendal Town, in its 100th year, out of the league and maybe even out of business.

"The consortium's bid is ambitious and forward looking. But with Kendal facing relegation and humiliation and with just 15 games of the season left, time is of the essence.

"The future of the club is massively at risk and so the chairman needs to be bold enough to take a risk and accept the consortium's offer."
