MP asks local people to sign online community birthday card to mark NHS’s 70th anniversary
Local MP Tim Farron is encouraging people in the South Lakes to sign a community birthday card to mark 70 years of the NHS.
The online card is designed to thanks the work of NHS staff in South Cumbria and across the rest of the country.
Tim will hand in the card to Westmorland General Hospital in Kendal next week.
Tim said: "We owe so much to the outstanding doctors and nurses who work so hard to look after us and I know everyone has a story about how the NHS has helped them over these past 70 years.
"It's true to say that if wasn't for the National Health Service - I wouldn't be alive today. My Dad was born just five months after the NHS was first created. The doctors thought my Grandmother was giving birth to twins at the time, but it turned out to be an abscess which, if it weren't for the NHS doctors, would've potentially killed both of them.
"I would encourage all local people to join me in saying a massive thank you to all of the amazing NHS staff today by signing our online card."
