Local Lib Dem councillors push for improved play areas in Windermere

Liberal Democrat councillors in Windermere are pushing for money to be spent on play areas following an announcement that extra funding has become available for the community.

South Lakeland District Council will be raising the money as a result from the proposed sale of a former public convenience block on Glebe Road in Bowness-on-Windermere to United Utilities.

Cllr Graham Vincent, SLDC portfolio holder for the economy, said: "The sale allows us to put money back into the local area and we intend to use this money for the benefit of Windermere and Bowness residents

"We look forward to working with Windermere Town Council, district councillors and local residents to ensure that the money is spent in a way that best serves the whole community."

Lib Dem district councillors Andrew Jarvis and Dyan Jones, and town councillor Magda Khan are pushing for the money to be spent on a new play area at Millerground and improvements to existing play parks.

Andrew said: "Whenever I speak to local Mums and Dads who have young kids, they all say that new equipment in play areas is badly needed and the announcement of this extra money gives us a golden opportunity to do just that.

"On top of this, a brand-new play area at Millerground would be great for the local community and we'll continue to push for this in the coming weeks and months."

Over the past 18 months, the Lib-Dem run district council have invested in the opening of new play areas in Flookburgh, Ambleside, Oxenholme and Kendal.
