Kendal Cycling Stage Will Be 'Massive Boost' - Farron

South Lakes MP Tim Farron has welcomed the news that a stage of the Tour of Britain, taking place in September, will come to Kendal.

The 2016 Cumbria stage on Monday 5 September will begin in Penrith, before passing around Thirlmere and through Grasmere, Rydal, Ambleside, Troutbeck, Town End, Bowness, and Crook, before finishing at Beast Banks in Kendal.

When the second stage of the Tour was held in September 2013, the county received an estimated £4.1m economic benefit from the race, with over 15,000 people lining the streets of Kendal to cheer cyclists on at the stage finish.

Tim said: "This is exciting news for South Lakeland, which will provide a boost to the local tourist industry and showcase the beauty of our area to an audience from across the globe. It will be a fantastic opportunity for the area and will create a real buzz.

"Following the devastating floods which have hit our area, and others in Cumbria, this is a great opportunity to show that we are open for business. My thanks go to all those who have worked to bring the Tour of Britain to South Lakeland."
