South Lakes MP Tim Farron has welcomed the announcement that the Tour of Britain will be coming through our area.

The Tour of Britain will race through the heart of the world-famous Lake District for the first time in 2013, as the race celebrates its tenth anniversary with a spectacular 225-kilometre stage through Cumbria and the Lake District.

The world's top teams and riders will arrive in Cumbria for Stage Two of The Tour on Monday 16th September, taking on a challenging route from Carlisle through the Lake District and finishing with the notorious uphill finish of Beast Banks in Kendal, last used in 2007.

Tim said: "This is fantastic news. The Tour of Britain will bring some of the world's best cyclists through our area. Kendal and South Lakeland will be firmly in the spotlight as they play host to this extremely prestigious event. Being able to bring another event to South Cumbria shows yet again that we are the rural cultural hub of the UK. With events like these we are really punching above our weight."
