South Lakes MP Tim Farron has welcomed news today that the 561 service will continue to operate, after the withdrawal of previous subsidies jeopardised its future.

Operated by Robinsons of Appleby, the 561 runs a return trip from Appleby to Kendal via Orton, Tebay and Grayrigg on a Wednesday. Tim had previously expressed his dismay that the vital service may face closure. However the bus operator has confirmed that the 561 service, which covers Appleby to Kendal, will now continue to operate on a commercial basis.

Commenting, Tim said: "I'm really happy to see that a solution has been found, and that the 561 bus service can continue to serve it's passengers a year. It's great that Robinson's of Appleby have agreed to carry on providing this important service. The 561 is a vital lifeline for local communities, and the 3000 passengers who use it every year."

"I'll continue to do everything in my power to protect our vital rural bus services."
